iPhone lights a fire

Burn, baby, burn

A video of a burning fire is now available as a premium application for the iPhone, but it remains to be seen if even iPhone users are stupid enough to pay $2 to listen to advertisements for Christmas albums.

Televised fires are surprisingly popular, with offerings on DVD and even broadcast in some areas, but putting the same experience onto an iPhone beggars belief. Capitol Records reckons a pocket version of the idea is the ideal platform to promote seasonal content - punters pay $2 to see a burning fireplace and listen to seasonal hits, which can then be purchased with a couple of taps on the screen.

Not that Capital has neglected the interactive capabilities of Apple's uber-phone - tapping a log generates sparks, as shown in this demonstration video:

Recent events have demonstrated that iPhone users won't just buy any crap you throw at them, much to the surprise of some developers. But this application comes from Moderati, the company responsible for the Virtual Zippo Lighter, so perhaps they know the kind of crap that will stick. ®
