Orchestral Star Wars spectacle to debut in London

A Musical Journey

Those of you who like your Star Wars films condensed into a two-hour compilation* and projected large to an 86-piece orchestral backing are in luck - that's exactly what Star Wars: A Musical Journey will offer when it debuts on 10 April next year at London's O2 arena.

According to the BBC, the spectacle is a collaboration between Lucasfilm and John Williams, who's "painstakingly rewritten" his Star Wars soundtracks for the production. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will do the honours with the music, and although the show won't have on-stage actors, it will feature live narrators.

And if that isn't enough to bring out the Jedi in you, there's also an accompanying exhibition featuring "original models, props, costumes and production artwork".

David Campbell, chief exec of O2 arena operator AEG Europe, offered the traditional: "Star Wars holds memories for practically everyone. John Williams is the composer of our times, and fans will be thrilled to know that both he and Lucasfilm have contributed fully to this new production.

"To have the premiere at the O2 is a real coup for us, and I know there will be a lot of very happy Star Wars fans out there when they hear the news."

Tickets for Star Wars: A Musical Journey go on sale on Monday, at between £30 and £100. You can sign up for an email alert here. ®

*I do - as long as it means Jar Jar Binks is left on the cutting room floor.
