US mulls clicks for cameraphones
What about deaf chicks?
Dumb law of the day comes from the US where consideration is being given to making it illegal to sell cameraphones which do not make a click noise when a still picture is taken.
The "Camera Phone Predator Alert Act" would forbid selling of phones which have a means to disable or silence the tone. Should the law ever pass it would be enforced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The noise should be audible within a reasonable distance of the phone.
The bill, was introduced by Congressman Peter King of New York, because: "Congress finds that children and adolescents have been exploited by photographs taken in dressing rooms and public places with the use of a camera phone."
Luckily the Congressman is on hand to make a law to stop this ever happening again. It is not clear what is supposed to happen if you use the movie function - a whirring noise?
Similar rules are supposedly in place in Japan and Korea to make it harder for ne'er do wells to take "upskirt" shots of unsuspecting women. ®
