Sony Ericsson unwraps entertainment duo

One for photography fans, the other for music buffs

Sony Ericsson has unveiled two phones at different ends of the entertainment spectrum. One’s a relatively high-end cameraphone and the other’s a music-oriented device with lower quality snapper.

Sony Ericsson's C903: 5Mp camera on board

Despite its 5Mp camera not quite meeting the requirements of a top-of-the-range cameraphone, the C903’s snapper still sports a 16x digital zoom, autofocus, face detection and smile recognition.

The decently proportioned 2.4in display will show off your snaps nicely, and the phone’s accelerometer will mean you can rotate the images between portrait and landscape with a flick of the wrist. Assisted GPS is also present, and an image’s location can be recorded using geo tagging.

The C903 supports quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge connections. You’ll also get Bluetooth connectivity and a slot for Sony’s Memory Stick Micro cards.

The C903 will play audio files, but the new Walkman 395 should really be your choice if your prefer Motown to Man Ray.

The phone has built-in stereo speakers – supposedly capable of delivering “high quality bass” – and comes with a stereo headset that turns the W395 into a dedicated music player. SE’s PlayNow music download service is supported, and TrackID helps organise your favourite tunes.

Sony Ericsson's W395 is a must for music moguls

Although the W395’s 2Mp snapper isn’t as powerful as the C903’s, the Walkman talker still boasts a digital zoom, video recording option and a Memory Stick Micro card slot.

You’ll get just over 12 hours of musical juice time from the phone, or about eight hours when using it to chat with mates over quad-band GSM. Edge is supported too.

...but the camera's not up to much

Sony Ericsson’s C903 will be available during Q2, with the choice of either a “Lacquer Black”, “Techno White” or “Glamour Red” body. The W395’s set to appear here in later this quarter and will be available in either “Dusky Grey” or “Blush Titanium”. Prices haven’t been announced yet. ®
