Getac fires out rugged PDA

Mountainsides aren’t the best places to hold meetings, but if you find yourself stranded on one and late for work then you’d better hope you’ve got Getac’s new ruggedised PDA with you.

Getac's PS535F: ultra-hard PDA

The “fully rugged” PS535F is based on Windows Mobile 6.1 and features GPS, an altimeter and “E-compass”.

Protected against water, drops and dust, the PDA will also “operate without failure under the most extreme weather conditions, environments” and withstand the rigours of everyday abuse.

Its 3.5in touch-sensitive display features sunlight readable technology, and Getac claimed that even graphic-intensive files and detailed maps will be visible in bright light or snowy conditions.

3Mp camera and altimeter both feature

Should you want to take a few pictures while you wait for the mountain rescue team to arrive, then the PDA’s equipped with a 3Mp camera.

And, if you can find a hotspot, then you’ll be able to email your snaps using the phone’s 802.11b/g Wi-Fi radio. Bluetooth 2.0 is present too.

A launch date or price from the PS535F hasn’t been announced.
