Game creator slams Wii MotionPlus

Didn’t really add anything, claims developer

A videogame developer will not support the Wii's upcoming MotionPlus peripheral because the add-on “didn’t really add anything” to gameplay, it claimed.

Nintendo's plug-on MotionPlus cube: improves sensitivity?

It was thought that MotionPlus - a small unit that plugs onto the end of the Remote and which it’s claimed will provide a higher level of motion-sensitivity than normal – would be supported by High Voltage Software’s upcoming game The Conduit.

But the firm’s VP, Eric Nofsinger, has since told gaming website 1UP that while “the device seems to lend itself more naturally for hand-to-hand combat”, it doesn't make for better off-screen IR tracking - which is what HVS has hoped for a needs for its game.

HVS’ decision not to go ahead with MotionPlus support for The Conduit couldn’t have come at a worse time, because Nintendo’s only just denied reports that the peripheral’s development has been delayed.

Various online reports recently claimed that Nintendo is still ironing out technical issues with the add-on.

But the firm’s since stated that because a formal MotionPlus launch date has never been specified - as previously reported - the launch can’t really be delayed. ®
