Sony Ericsson serves up tennis star's handset

Maria Sharapova used to flog clamshell

Nothing shifts gadgets better than a sexy sport star’s endorsement. So Sony Ericsson’s doubled up with tennis superstar Maria Sharapova to serve up its latest handset – the T707.

Sony Ericsson's T707 clamshell: pink for the ladies

Apparently SE chose Sharapova because she “perfectly epitomises the phone’s sleek and elegant qualities”, which extend to a body that lights up when a call comes in. We trust Maria's doesn't.

The phone’s interactive too, because if you’re too busy knocking your balls about to answer a call then just wave your racket over the screen to mute it. The same action also allows you to snooze the alarm clock.

A 3.2Mp camera will let you snap court-side pictures and, if a tennis star gets her skirt caught in her drawers, then you can zoom in for a better look using the 3.2x digital zoom.

In a change of pace, pictures are stored on Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards – rather than SD card.

Images can be viewed on the phone’s 2.2in, 240 x 320 screen and alerts about messages or calls also show up on an external monochromatic OLED display that measures 1.1in.

Set-up for quad-band GSM calls, the T707 also connects to the web over Edge and HSDPA 3G. Images can even be geo-tagged from the phone.

All the usual entertainment features have been installed, including a media player and SE’s TrackID technology for displaying song names. MP3 and AAC audio formats are supported.

The 93 x 50 x 14mm phone will be available during Q2, and you’ll have three outfits to choose between: “Mysterious Black”, “Spring Rose” and “Lucid Blue”. ®
