The latest suitor for everyone's favourite mobile application is apparently Apple.
Quite why Apple wants to buy Twitter is not entirely clear, but that hasn't stopped the story spreading, partly because it's too good a story to kill and partly because it will create page impressions whether it is true or not.
Apple is in final stage talks to pay $700m for the mobile moneypit, according to Valleywag. Even observers like Michael Arrington are having trouble swallowing this one.
Of course everyone and their dog has been rumoured to be buying Twitter - most recently Google. Other supposed bidders include News Corp, Facebook and Microsoft.
As Kara Swisher points out at ATD, just because Twitter is attracting mainstream interest doesn't mean talks are anywhere near complete. ®
