Office 2010 tech preview leaks onto interwebs

Word up

A technical preview version of Microsoft’s forthcoming Office 2010 has popped up on several BitTorrent sites, just days after the company released it to a select bunch of testers.

The software was supposed to be dished out on an invite-only basis. However, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Office 2010 Technical Preview have been leaked onto the interwebs.

Microsoft confirmed last week that it would push out a new test build of its Office 2010 suite, which faces increasing pressure from market rivals such as OpenOffice.org and Google Docs, in July.

However, the software giant handed a technical preview of Office 2010 to a few thousand people last week.

The Office 2010 beta is expected to land at some point in the second half of 2009. It can run on Windows XP SP3, Vista and Windows 7. Additionally it will also work on any computer that can run Office 2007, Microsoft noted last week.

Apps crammed into Office 2010 include Access 2010, Excel 2010, OneNote 2010, Outlook 2010, PowerPoint 2010, Project 2010, Publisher 2010, SharePoint Designer 2010, SharePoint Workspace 2010, Visio 2010, and Word 2010.

Ars Technica has some screen shots of the new software here. ®
