British court backs eBay piracy stance
Follows French precedent, for once
The British High Court has backed eBay in a case brought by L'Oreal, which accused the online tat bazaar of failing to take adequate action to prevent fake items being sold on its site.
The French courts took a similar line last week.
eBay welcomed the verdict and also called on rights owners to join its VeRO programme which automates the take down process.
L'Oreal welcomed the judges call for eBay to work harder to filter items before they appear on the site. The judge also referred several issues of law to the European Court of Justice for clarification.
The auctioneer is next month restarting its campaign to change grey import and cross-border trading laws across Europe, which it claims are protectionist. ®
