Nokia N97 successor revealed?

Flagship smartphone to run Maemo

Juicy specifications for Nokia’s potential successor to the N97 smartphone have been leaked online.

Reportedly internally referred to as the N900, Rover and Maemo Flagship, a Nokia mole - who spoke to website MobileCrunch - said that although the smartphone's similar to the N97, it boasts several notable improvements and changes.

Admittedly the N900 will sport the same 3.5in screen as the N97, but its resolution looks set to jump from 360 x 640 to 800 x 480. The screen will also slide up to reveal a Qwerty keypad, rather than tilt upwards as it does on the N97.

The Maemo Flagship reference – probably Nokia’s N900 codename – also suggests that the smartphone will run the Maemo OS – a screenshot of which was leaked last week, instead of S60.

Said to measure 56.7 x 111 x 18.2mm, the N900 will also apparently be equipped with a 5Mp camera and 32GB of internal storage – further expandable up to 42GB using a memory card.

Video capture and geo-tagging will both be possible on the device. Wi-Fi support will work in conjunction with Firefox, VoIP, and various status-sharing applications, including one that’s said to reflect your mood.

The Nokia mole claimed the N900 smartphone will hit Europe in October, but a price hasn’t been leaked yet. ®
