Moles claim Project Natal will yield a redesigned Xbox 360
'New version' to launch in 2010, they say
Details uncovered about the image sensor inside Microsoft’s upcoming Project Natal peripheral have sparked speculation that a redesigned Xbox 360 will be launched next year.
US-based imaging firm Aptina has “won exclusive rights” to supply Microsoft with 1.3Mp CMOS sensors for Project Natal, according to industry sources in Taiwan cited by Digitimes.
These sensors will form part of a “new version of the Xbox 360 console under Microsoft’s Project Natal technology” which, it's said, is expected to begin in the second half of 2010.
It’s unclear exactly what the reference to a new version of the Xbox 360 means. It’s possible that Microsoft’s reworking the console’s innards and, possibly, physical design in preparation for Project Natal’s launch.
Last month, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said a Natal-equipped and revamped version of the 360 would be released next year. ®
