50% of firm's phones to run Android by 2010, claim moles

Over half of HTC’s smartphones will ship running Google’s Android platform next year, it’s emerged.

Around 30 per cent of HTC’s smartphones currently ship with Android, but the firm plans to expand that figure to over 50 per cent by 2010, according to sources in Taiwan cited by website Digitimes.

HTC was, of course, the first handset manufacturer to launch a mobile phone running on Android – the T-Mobile G1. However, this latest revelation should be taken with a pinch of salt because HTC has already openly pledged its allegiance to the Windows Mobile platform.

Back in June, Frédéric Tassy, Grand Fromage of HTC France and Benelux, said: “We will always have more flagship products on Windows Mobile”. ®
