O2 UK denies pre-Halloween Pré launch

30 October release date incorrect, apparently

A report that O2 will launch the Palm Pré in the UK on 30 October is false, the network operator has told Register Hardware.

An anonymous O2 employee recently told hacks at website My Pre that Palm's iPhone rival would be released in Blighty at the end of October.

However, O2 today insisted that the leaked Palm Pré information is incorrect. “No launch date has been announced,” the spokeswoman added.

The tipster also claimed that the handset’s UK price – set at $200 (£121/€141) in the US with a two-year contract – will be similar to that of the iPhone 3GS.

The cheapest UK punters can pick up the 3GS for from O2 is currently £440 ($722/€512) for the 16GB model on pay-as-you-go, or for free on a monthly £44.05 ($72.37/€51.28) contract. ®
