Samsung spins out DJ PMP

Scratch, mix and spin

Samsung has launched what it has claimed is the world’s slimmest and lightest multimedia player with integrated DivX support.

The 8.9mm thick R1 can be kept in your wallet, according to Samsung, and has a decently proportioned 2.6in touchscreen that – when teamed up with the “Beat DJ” feature – allows you ‘scratch’ records in real time.

Users can also add their own voices and sound effects onto audio files, while drag-and-drop operation enables audio and video files to be moved from and to the 50g player using your PC.

Navigation around the R2 is handled by Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface – which you may have seen on the firm’s mobile phones – and Digital Natural Sound Engine to provide, supposedly, “the highest possible sound quality".

Samsung’s R1 will be available in Europe later this month. A price hasn’t been announced, but you’ll be able to choose between 8GB and 16GB models. ®
