PSP Go Bluetooth tethering inbound

Firmware update "available soon"

Bluetooth tethering is winging its way to the PlayStation Portable Go, Sony has confirmed.

PSP firmware update version 6.10 will bring new features to existing PSPs and to the new PSP Go – set to be released in the UK tomorrow. But its Sony’s mention of tethering that has really got gamers excited.

Only applicable to the Go, the tweak will enable gamers to use a Bluetooth device, such as a mobile phone, as a modem to connect the handheld console to the internet, Sony promised.

The feature means that “when you’re not located close to a Wi-Fi spot you have another way to get on the internet, via a Bluetooth mobile device”, said Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations, on a company blog.

For owners of old-school PSPs, the firmware update adds SensMe, an app found on Sony Ericsson mobile phones which automatically categorises music tracks into 12 channels, including “Relax” and “Newly Added”.

An official launch date for firmware 6.10 hasn’t been confirmed, but Lempel promised that it will be “available soon”. ®
