Red Bull to become mobile virtual network operator?

Energy drink gives you wings coverage

Red Bull, as everyone knows, gives you wings. But the energy drink could soon give you minutes and network coverage too, because the company has launched a mobile phone network.

Details are still sketchy at this stage, but a website, Red Bull Mobile, has cropped up online. It promises “the latest handsets, competitive tariffs and a complete package of mobile communication features”.

While the site’s opening page shows a Sony Ericsson handset with ‘Red Bull MOBILE’ branding and is written in English, all other pages are written in German. The website’s URL also ends in ‘.at’ – the code for Austria.

As far as we can make out, Red Bull currently has two flavours of tariff on offer: a €19 (£14/$28) per month option and a €29 (£21/$43) monthly package. Both include different, but generous, amounts of minutes, texts, web access and unlimited access to Red Bull TV.

Subscribers can also choose between five handsets, including the Sony Ericsson C702, Nokia’s 5800 and ZTE’s RBM1.

It’s still unclear if Red Bull will appear as a UK network operator. ®
