Carphone Warehouse trading peachy

15,000 more customers

Carphone Warehouse has lost fewer Tiscali subscribers than feared - but that means a bit more shelling out for the company.

The final price Carphone pays for Tiscali is based on the number of subscribers who desert the service as a result of the merger, and it seems 62,000 Tiscali customers have disappeared. We're told that's in line with expectations. Even better: TalkTalk managed to sign up 77,000 in the same period, leading to a increase in broadband customers of 15,000.

Meanwhile, Best Buy Europe - Carphone's joint venture with Best Buy - increased its mobile subscriber base by two per cent, which is all to the good. Best Buy Europe is still on track for splitting off from the parent around the end of March next year.

So, the still-combined operations now have 2.93 million broadband customers, 2.32m of whom are unbundled, which means they can be sold TV services too. Best Buy Europe has also sold 3.17 million mobile phone connections - not too shabby by anyone's standards. ®
