Fujitsu intros 11in notebook-not-netbook

CULV 'r' in

Fujitsu has hopped on the Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage - Intel's name for low-end, low-power notebook chippery - bandwagon and launched the 11in Lifebook P3110.

Fujitsu's Lifebook P3110: notebook processor and storage spec...

Notebook or netbook? There's no Atom processor here, just a choice of single-core Celeron 743, Pentium SU4100 and dual-core Core 2 Duo SU7300 CPUs. But otherwise you're talking about a compact machine a lot like a netbook.

The port layout is pure netbook: three USB, SDHC card slot, Ethernet, VGA and analog audio.

Don't forget, prospective buyers, dual-core replacements for the SU1400 and 743 are in the pipeline for Q4 so you may want to wait a wee while.

Fujitsu didn't detail many of the machine's other specs - it'll presumably say more closer to the 9 November launch date - but it did say that there will be a version will built in 3G HSDPA connectivity and the P3110 will be available in a choice of red, black and silver colour schemes.

Each will come with up to 4GB of memory and 500GB of HDD storage, Fujitsu said, and offer a battery life of up to six hours. The will have 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Given the launch date - the 3G models don't come out until 23 November, perhaps in celebration of Doctor Who's 46th anniversary - Windows 7 will almost certainly be the bundled operating system. ®
