Computacenter ditches last distie biz
End of an era as former reseller focuses on services
Computacenter has sold the last of its distribution businesses to Ingram Micro for an undisclosed amount.
In a statement, the reseller said: "This completes Computacenter's exit from trade distribution and leaves Computacenter totally focused on services and solutions for end user customers."
The takeover means about 40 staff will move across to Ingram Micro.
Ingram Micro said the acquisition of Computacenter Distribution (CCD) would strengthen its enterprise and data centre skills.
Greg Spierkel, Ingram's chief exec, said CCD was the UK's leading mid-tier enterprise distie, with a proud 22 year history and long relationships with customers. The full statement is here.
Although Computacenter will lose about £80m in annualised revenue, it does not expect this to have any material impact on profits for the year - perhaps evidence of how tough it is to find decent margin in distribution.
In January, Computacenter announced the results of a strategic review, which saw it pull out of PC and printer distribution, cut managers and spend £25m on an internal SAP-based ERP system. ®
