Fujitsu strike cancelled

Stand down, brothers

Unionised Fujitsu workers have dropped their threat of a three-day strike that was scheduled to begin tomorrow, after bosses agreed to extend talks on pension cuts and delay compulsory redundancies.

Fujitsu plans to withdraw its final salary scheme and has announced 1,200 job cuts.

Unite, the union behind the strike, said Fujitsu had promised not to take any action against staff who do not hear of today's last gasp cancellation and walk out anyway.

The accord means no workers will be forced out of the firm until 31 January. Pensions talks will now continue until the same date.

Unite had billed the strike as the first ever at a UK IT company. ®
