McKinnon team granted extra week to file extradition appeal

One more one more time

Government solicitors have granted an extra week for solicitors acting for Pentagon hacker Gary McKinnon, to lodge a judicial review on the Home Secretary's recent decision to allow extradition proceedings against Pentagon hacker Gary McKinnon to proceed.

Alan Johnson re-started the clock on McKinnon's extradition last week despite medical evidence that the self-confessed hacker was potentially suicidal.

McKinnon's legal team have been given until 10 December to lodge an appeal, a week less than their requested extension of up until 17 December. Only a further judicial review or conceivably an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights stand between the 43-year-old Asperger's sufferer and a US trial for breaking into insecure US military systems in the months around the 9/11 attacks.

The former sys admin admits hacking insecure US military systems in the hunt for evidence about UFOs, but denies causing any damage. McKinnon and his supporters have fought a high profile campaign seeking his trial in the UK since the US began extradition proceedings in 2005.

News of a revised deadline to lodge a judicial review came in a statement from McKinnon's lawyers Kaim Todner. ®
