Dell pitches ultra-skinny laptop at business
No Linux version for the Brits?
Dell has introduced a Vostro-branded alternative to its ultra-skinny Adamo laptop.
Dell's V13: and Adamo begat Vostro
Dubbed the V13, the 16.5mm-thick aluminium-clad notebook comes with a choice of single-core Celeron 743 clocked at 1.2GHz, 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo SU3500 or 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo SU7300. They contain between 2GB and 4GB of 1066MHz DDR 3 - the machines' frontside bus speed is 800MHz.
You can spec them out with 250GB of 5400rpm hard drive storage, or a 320GB, 7200rpm disk.
Graphics are integrated - its a GMA 4500MHD core - and the machines come with Bluetooth and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi as standard. The display, as the name suggests, is a 13in panel with a native resolution of 1366 x 768. It's described by Dell as an "anti-glare" screen.
Waif-fi
Prices over here start at £359, which includes 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium - even though the Vostro's are, nominally, business-oriented machines. Dell UK does not appear to be offering the V13 with Ubuntu Linux, which it has on a $449 (£276) version of the V13 in the States. ®
