Nokia sets date for netbook UK debut

Starts taking Booklet 3G orders from Blighty

Want to be assured of getting your mitts on Nokia's Windows 7 netbook, the Booklet 3G? The Finnish phone giant is now taking advance orders for the pricey product, which, it says, will ship in January.

Designed to be sold by network operators and retailers, all of whom will subsidise the hardware on the back of monthly 3G data subscriptions, the Booklet is being offered by Nokia separate from any such contract.

The company wants a whopping £649 for it, for which it is generously waiving P&P.

Nokia's Booket 3G: pricey

You could get two of our Editor's Choice netbooks - the Toshiba NB200 - for that and use either with a cheap USB 3G modem.

Still, the Nokia does come with a body made out of "aircraft-grade aluminum"; its screen has a 1280 x 720 resolution; it has 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS on board; it has a claimed 12-hour battery life; and it is rather nice looking.

But why did Nokia go an spoil it by using a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor designed for handheld internet tablets?

Don't care? Then place your order on Nokia's UK website. ®
