SFO abandons case management IT

The Serious Fraud Office has written off £1.3m on an abandoned case management system.
In response to a Freedom of Information request, the SFO said that the system, which reached "early build" stage, was intended to replace its existing case management software.
The SFO currently uses Docman software, developed in partnership with LogicaCMG, to support its case work.
The decision to abandon the new system was taken after it became clear that the costs of development, incurred at the end of 2008-09, exceeded available funding.
However, the SFO also said that it had reviewed the project specification and that it expected an "affordable" revised case management to be in use by the end of 2010-11.
The development work from the initial replacement system will be used as a basis for the cheaper version.
The SFO was invited to comment on the £1.3m write off and the development of new software, but it did not respond.
