Swedish necrophiliacs in fake Facebook fundraiser

Haiti hoax relief effort a dead 'good laugh'

Swedes who flocked to a Facebook group which claimed to be in support of Haitian earthquake relief got a nasty surprise when it turned out to be run by "necrophiliacs", The Local reports.

The group, named "2 kronor per member to earthquake victims in Haiti", promised to stump said couple of crowns (£0.17) per head when the membership hit 200,000. By Tuesday afternoon, over 212,000 had signed up, but were then informed that the organisers were actually the Svenska Nekrofil-föreningen (Swedish Necrophilia Association).

A message on the Facebook page read: “As many already know, it is the Swedish Necrophilia Association which is now sending 500,000 kronor to ensure that the bodies which are brought home from Haiti are in as good shape as possible.”

The perpetrators of the hoax also posted "disturbing photos, as well as additional text in which the group described the types of bodies its members wanted to have sex with". One informed the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper via email that the stunt was designed "to get a good laugh and teach people about critically reviewing their sources”.

By yesterday evening, the Facebook group was no more, The Local notes. ®
