Apple's mega Mac on hold (again)
27-inch iMac production halted?
Apple has stopped production of its multi-troubled 27-inch iMac.
Or so say unnamed sources speaking to MacBidouille/HardMac. According to those sources, production of both the Core i5 and Core i7 models has been shut down entirely. The Core 2 Duo versions of Apple's top-of-the-line all-in-one were not mentioned.
Seeing as how most of the 27-incher's problems have been related to its flickering and lemony display, and seeing as how the Core i5 and i7 models use the ATI Radeon HD 4850 while the Core 2 Duos use the Radeon HD 4670, the lack of mention of the lower-powered iMacs may be understandable.
The 27-inch iMac has caused Cupertinian headaches since it was released in October of last year. Numerous early units had flickering displays, cracked bezels, or simply didn't even turn on.
Presumably in an effort to buy time to fix those problems, along with reports of "noisy screens," "whistles", "high pitch noises," "high frequent [sic] noise f****ing up my ears," Apple delayed shipments first in December and again in January.
Now comes this report that Apple has stopped building the top-end big boys entirely - at least, one assumes, until they can get their quality-control act together.
Apple did not respond to our request for comment on MacBidouille/HardMac's claims. ®
