Steve Jobs anoints official biographer
Einstein biographer to produce the Book of Steve?
Steve Jobs has put himself on a par with Albert Einstein and Benjamin Franklin in anointing the man he would like to write his official biography. Maybe.
The New York Times reports that Jobs is to collaborate with Walter Isaacson, a former editor of Time and ex-chairman and CEO of CNN, on an authorised biography.
The Times reports that the book would span Jobs' entire 55 years (so far). While the book is in the early stages, Jobs has apparently already invited Isaacson to tour his childhood home.
Isaacson currently heads up the Aspen Institute, a DC think tank on education and policy studies.
He has already written biographies of Albert Einstein and Benjamin Franklin, while another book American Sketches: Great Leaders, Creative Thinkers, and Heroes of a Hurricane looked at great leaders.
Jobs has been furiously private in the past, with previous biographers getting absolutely no help at all from the great man. It has been claimed that Jobs actively sought to suppress previous biographies, iCon and The Second Coming of Steve Jobs.
However, the NYT speculates that his recent health problems may have focused his mind more on his legacy.
So it would seem appropriate that someone who has delved into the minds of the world's greatest physicist, and a scientist/founding father of the US would be a suitable person for profiling the genius behind the iPad.
Or perhaps it was Isaacson's biography of Henry Kissinger that drew Jobs' attention. ®
