Samsung has taken the wraps off a new premium compact camera pitched an serious snappers.

Samsung's EX1: high-end compact

The EX1 sports a 24mm f/1.8-2.4 wide-angle Schneider Kreuznach lens that incorporates image stabilisation, Samsung said. The lens has a 3x optical zoom.

Behind it sits a 10Mp sensor built from a "high performance" 1/1.7in CCD good for an ISO speeds of up to 3200. It feeds through to the EX1's fold-out 3in OLED screen.

As a high-end compact, the EX1 provides full manual control and RAW format support.

The 114 x 63.2 x 29mm EX1 will also do video recording to, but only at up to 640 x 480, 30f/s. The video format is H.264.

Samsung didn't say when the EX1 will go on sale here, but it's expected to retail for around £400. ®
