IBM plugs Netcool into Juniper's Space
Big Blue service management for Junos
Juniper Networks is reaching into IBM's service management portfolio to add some oomph to its new Junos Space network application platform.
Big Blue said on Tuesday that it will license its Tivoli Netcool/Ominibus and Network Manager technology for Junos Space. The pact was announced during IBM's Pulse 2010 conference in Las Vegas and Juniper's Financial Analyst meeting in San Francisco.
Expected to arrive in the third quarter, the new Junos Space Fault Suite will provide service providers running Juniper gear with fault and network management.
Juniper has aggressively been seeking partnerships both large and small to add more value to Junos in its fight against Cisco. IBM in particular has been a key ally since 1996, the company said.
"When it comes to joint development, we probably never had a deeper relationship as we do today with IBM," said Gerri Elliot, Juniper's veep of strategic alliances at the analyst meeting.
Elliot also claimed that Juniper is the only networking partner with IBM that has a relationship in both product sales and services.
Elliot added that Juniper is extremely hopeful about its new OEM pact with Dell, set to begin in the second quarter. "I will predict that it will be the fastest alliance we ever got to market," she said. "We're super excited about both IBM and Dell." ®
