Microsoft coughs to Visual Studio 2010 upgrade delay

Tells customers to play with trial version instead

Microsoft has been forced to delay delivery of some Visual Studio 2010 Professional Upgrade pre-orders due to a “product fulfillment issue”, The Register has learned.

The company apologised to EMEA customers who had ordered the software via the Microsoft online store ahead of its release earlier this week.

"We apologise for the inconvenience. The Microsoft Store is currently working through a product fulfillment issue related to pre-orders for the Visual Studio 2010 Professional Upgrade product,” said the vendor.

“We will be able to provide you with a status update of by [sic] no later than April 17, 2010. In the meantime you can download a trial version of Visual Studio Professional 2010 from www.microsoft.com/visualstudio to start working with Visual Studio immediately."

El Reg asked Microsoft to clarify what it meant by a “product fulfillment issue”, however at time of writing it hadn’t gotten back to us with comment.

The company hasn’t confirmed when the upgrade will be made available to customers who stumped up cash for the VS2010 software. It’s also unclear at this stage if punters are having similar problems getting their hands on the upgrade in the US and elsewhere.

It could be that Microsoft has once again hit problems with its supplier, we’ve asked the question but this is yet to be confirmed, however.

Following the launch of Windows 7 in October last year, Microsoft was flooded with complaints from hundreds of disgruntled university bods who struggled to download or successfully install the operating system’s files that were supplied by US-based Digital River. ®
