Cameron promises yet more Avatar

Cinematic re-release plus oceanic sequel

Those of you who simply haven't had enough Avatar will be pleased to learn that James Cameron has revealed he's planning a sequel in which he'll be "focusing on the ocean on Pandora".

Speaking to the LA Times, the helmsman described this new environment as "equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative" as Avatar's rainforest. He also suggested a third Avatar outing which might "expand out" across the Alpha Centauri AB system.

Avatar is released on DVD on Blu-ray this week, but Cameron is keen to cash in on any untapped revenue still to be extracted from cinemeagoers, Accordingly, the movie will reappear in cinemas in August, complete with an "additional six minutes".

Doubtless this will infuriate fans who'll rush to buy the DVD on Thursday, then rush to cinemas to enjoy an extra 360 seconds of CGI magic, and finally twiddle their thumbs until Avatar: The Extended Cinematic Re-Release becomes available to buy. Not to mention, of course, the intolerable wait for Avatar 2, which judging by Cameron's interview, is set to continue with his campaigning hug-the-planet agenda.

Indeed, the director says he was attracted to the idea of a sequel because "not only is it good business, but it’s good for the environment". If your nerves can stand it, there's more here. ®
