A 25-year-old Brit astrophysics graduate, model and pro poker player has scooped the £1.1m European Poker Tour jackpot, the Sun reports.
Liv Boeree saw off 1,240 rivals in the San Remo tournament, finally trumping Jakob Carlsson's ace high and a six with a pair of fives. She's now off to Sunday's EPT grand final in Monte Carlo, where she could pocket £2.2m to add to the £1.8m she's already trousered in three years at the tables.
Boeree, from Milstead, Kent, said of the tournament: "It took six days and by the end I was running on adrenaline. When I eventually won, I just jumped up and started whooping."
After studying astrophysics at the University of Manchester, Boeree's poker career kicked off when she won a place on TV reality show Ultimatepoker.com Showdown, and when she's not facing off across the baize, she has a nice sideline in posing for magazines such as Loaded. She's apparently known as the "Iron Maiden" for her penchant for heavy metal. ®
