Apple has promised an iPad software fix for fanbois complaining of WiFi problems on the Jobsian handheld.
That also means the company has actually acknowledged the problems exist, but it says that only a few fanbois are affected.
Apple is already providing workarounds for certain WiFi ills, but these don't solve larger complaints that first popped up in the days following the launch of the iPad in early April. In a support article detailing some of these basic workarounds, Apple says it will address "remaining WiFi connectivity issues" with a "future" update.
The company does not say when this fix will arrive.
According to Apple,"a very small number of iPad users" are experiencing problems with connectivity. Fanbois have complained of an inability to establish WiFi connections, dropped connections, weak signals, and slow download speeds.
"I have five devices on my wireless and ONLY the iPad causes frequent problems," says one poster to Apple's support forums. "It's a complete joke that all other devices can handle this (windows 7 laptop, MacBook air, iPhone, Internet radio, etc.), but the stupid ipad cannot."
Currently, if you're having issues, Apple suggests updating your WiFi router firmware (not much help if you're at Starbucks), using WPA or WPA2 wireless security, adjusting screen brightness, and renewing your IP address. ®
