A Western Digital partner has implied a 3TB drive is coming .
Veracity makes the Coldstore video surveillance array, using a "linear array of idle disks technology and sequential filing system in order to offer reliability and file access". It has announced a partnership with Western Digital following "the realization by the two companies that Veracity's Coldstore video surveillance storage array is aligned with Western Digital's new audio-visual (AV) disk drive range for AV storage".
So far, so ordinary. Veracity's announcement about this partnership includes this lovely sentence: "Coldstore is a 19-inch rack mount disk array with space to accommodate 15 hard disk drives to provide a current capacity of 30TB, rising to 45TB in the future."
Now things get interesting. Fifteen hard drives and 30TB means 2TB hard drives. Western Digital's 3.5-inch SATA AV-GP offers 2TB and a low power draw for the AV market.
Fifteen hard drives and 45TB means 3TB hard drives. There aren't any announced 3TB drives - so looks like we've got a 3TB one coming from Western Digital. This chimes with Seagate having a 3TB 3.5-inch drive coming as well.
Western Digital doesn't comment on unannounced products. ®
