HTC has got European Hero owners hopes up by launching the long awaited Android 2.1 update for the smartphone... in Taiwan.
The release - firmware version 2.73.751.13 - was pushed out to Asian Hero handsets late last week, though has yet to appear on European update servers.
Originally expected in February this year, the upgrade was subsequently put back a month. It didn't show up in March, and in April HTC said the release really would make an appearance, in June.
Originally pitched as a "preparatory" update, last week's release appears to be the full Android 2.1 package rather than a set of tweaks that need to be applied before the latest version of the Google OS can be installed. ®
