Crucial intros low cost, low capacity fast SSD

Ultra-quick boot drive, anyone?

Crucial has rolled out a 64GB version of its RealSSD C300 6Gb/s Sata solid-state drive line.

With the company's existing 128GB and 256GB C300's retailing for, respectively, £309 and £540, the 64GB model provides a taste of SSD goodness for a more cost-effective £121.

The C300 uses the laptop-oriented 2.5in form-factor, but low-capacity SSDs like this one are finding a home even in desktop PCs, as high-speed boot drives for the OS and apps. A secondary high capacity yet cheap hard drive holds your data.

Like the higher-capacity C300's the 64GB drive has a max read speed of 355MB/s. Its peak write speed is 75MB/s - the 128GB hits 140MBs, while the 256GB version tops out at 215MB/s.

The drive is available from Crucial now. ®
