Lindsay Lohan goes down for 90 days

Beats her previous 84-minute record

Bespeckled thespiatrix Lindsay Lohan has been sentenced to 90 days' jail for repeatedly violating her 2007 probation for two drink driving raps.

The "stunned" actress turned on the waterworks as Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel slapped her with some proper hard time.

In 2007, Lohan served a gruelling 84 minutes for drunk driving and possession of Bolivian marching powder following two incidents - the first involving a Mercedes Benz and a Sunset Boulevard hedge, and the second a light cuffing for DUI in Santa Monica.

The terms of her probation demanded Lohan attend alcohol education classes, but since last October, she'd failed to turn up "at least nine times".

Lohan also missed a May court appearance "because she was at the Cannes Film Festival". She eventually showed up four days late claiming she "was stranded in France after her passport was stolen".

The unimpressed court ordered her to sport a SCRAM alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet, but on 6 June the device indicated ahe "may have violated her bail by consuming alcohol after the MTV Movie Awards".

In a last-ditch attempt to avoid her client's incarceration, Lohan's lawyer lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley insisted the actress had "done well by meeting the overall terms of her probation".

A tearful Lohan told the judge: "I have tried to do the best I can. It's just been such a long haul. I don't want you to think I don't respect you and your terms. I really did think I was doing what I was supposed to do, and I mean it with all my heart."

Judge Revel was having none of it. She said: "I couldn't have been more clear [about my orders]. There are no excuses."

Lohan is currently on bail pending her dateline with the slammer. The Daily Mail has more details, plus heartrending snaps of a lachrymose Lohan, right here. ®
