A man in North West London has been accused of fraudulently filming Hollywood movies at a Vue cinema and then distributing the wares illegally.
Emmanuel Nimley, 22, of Lincoln Road in Harrow, allegedly filmed Jennifer Aniston’s latest fluffy vehicle, The Bounty Hunter, and other movies in the borough’s St George’s Shopping Centre.
He is currently out on bail and will return to court on 18 August.
It’s not the first case of its kind as there have been recent successful court actions against the recording of films in Blighty cinemas, after prosecutors cited the Fraud Act.
However, many in the movie-making industry have complained that the UK government lags behind Europe and the US because there’s no specific legislation that can be used in a charge such as the one against Nimley.
“While there has been some recent success in prosecuting cases under the 2006 Fraud Act, doing so remains complicated and uncertain,” noted the Cinema Exhibitors’ Association just last month.
Local rag The Harrow Times was first to report this story yesterday. ®
