VMware eats two companies at once
Integrien and TriCipher munched
VMworld VMware has agreed to acquire Integrien, an outfit that offers "real-time" analytics software for monitoring application and infrastructure performance, and TriCipher, a company that handles access management and security for net-based applications.
The virtualization giant announced the news this morning during the keynote at its annual VMworld conference in San Francisco. Chief Technology Officer and senior vice president of R&D Dr. Steven Herrod indicated that Integrien's software would dovetail with vCenter, VMware's tool for managing virtualized infrastructure built with its vSphere platform.
The company also said that TriCipher will be used in multiple VMware projects, including its effort to support applications that run across both the private data center and online services and its plan to manage access to online applications across multiple devices. TriCipher, Herrod said, would help provide single-sign-on for myriad cloud applications through VMware's still-gestating Project Horizon.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed. Both applications are expected to close in the third calendar quarter of 2010. ®
