LaCie has introduced two more USB 3.0 external hard drives, one for desktops, the other for portable computers.

The latter first: it's the Rikiki USB 3.0, a 500GB 2.5in unit that LaCie's selling for £90.

The second drive, the Minimus, comes in at 1TB of 3.5in storage for £100. Like the Rikiki, the Minimus is wrapped in an aluminium casing.

USB 3.0 - aka SuperSpeed USB - is able to provide data transfer speeds of up to 5Gb/s, but you won't get anything like that from rotating media as used here.

If your computer doesn't yet support USB 3.0, both drives are fully compatible with USB 2.0.
