Iomega preps external SSDs

USB 3.0 on board

Iomega will release its first USB 3.0 external solid-state drives next month.

They'll be none too cheap, mind: £183 for a 64GB model rising to £624 for the 256GB version. Ouch.

These are 1.8in drives, and if they seem pricier than comparable internal 2.5in SSDs, bear in mind these are the prices which retails will discount down from. And there's undoubtedly a small premium for SuperSpeed USB compatibility.

The drives also come with drive imaging software, the Dantz EMC Roxio Retrospect back-up app, and Iomega's own backup software, QuikProtect. ®
