And Turkey lifts ban

YouTube founder Chad Hurley is ending day-to-day involvement with the video-sharing site.

The job of CEO will go to longtime Googler Salar Kamangar, who Hurley said had been effectively running the site for the last few months anyway.

Google paid $1.65bn for YouTube back in 2006, and so is presumably hoping Kamangar will steer it to profit.

Hurley also runs a mens' fashion and accessories business called Hlaska (which sums up the dichotomy of Hawaii and Alaska, apparently).

In other news, Turkey has lifted its ban on YouTube after three and a half years. The company was keen to stress it had taken no action itself, but understood that a third party had removed content which the Turkish authorities found objectionable.

The Turkish transport minister, who is also responsible for web issues, said it had been a long process and he hoped much had been learnt by both sides.

The ban was originally put in place in response to videos deemed insulting to the country's modern founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. ®
