Man arrested in Phones4U mansion raid

Plod collar suspect in Liverpool

Staffordshire police, with help from their colleagues on Merseyside, have arrested a man in connection with the aggravated robbery at Broughton Hall - home of former Phones4U boss John Caudwell.

The incident on Monday night left Caudwell with a one-inch gash on his forehead from an iron bar wielded by one of the gang. His partner and a member of staff were also assaulted before the gang fled with jewellery and cash.

The 48-year* old man from Liverpool was arrested by officers from Staffs and Merseyside forces on Wednesday afternoon.

Staffordshire Police said: "He was initially detained in custody in Merseyside before being transferred to Staffordshire Police's Northern Area Custody Facility in Stoke-on-Trent where he remained in custody overnight.

"The man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary."

* Police later said he was 43 years old.®
