Samsung: we'll sell a million-plus Android tablets this year
Add it to the Tab
Samsung expects to sell more than a million Galaxy Tabs this year, the Korean giant said today.
The Tab, a 7in tablet running Android 2.2 and featuring Wi-Fi, 3G and GPS technology, went on sale im Europe and Asia at the start of this week.
Samsung launched the Tab in Korea this morning. At the launch, JK Shin, who runs Samsung's mobile business, said: "Consumer responses in Europe and Asia have been quite good, and we are confident of meeting one million sales mark this year."
Another company exec has already said Samsung expects to sell ten million Tabs by this time next year.
In the UK, the Tab is available on its own or through network operators who are pushing the device hard as an alternative to the iPad.
They all scent strong Christmas sales, particularly while the Apple tablet is the only serious competition unless you include the cheap-as-chips, woefully-specced - resistive screens, Android 1.6, three-hour battery life etc - Chinese tablets retailers like Next and Asda are punting. ®
