Blogger faces terror charges for 'naming MPs'

Don't tell 'em about Hansard or TheyWorkForYou

A West Midlands blogger has been charged with terrorism offences for allegedly using a blog to list members of parliament who voted in favour of the Iraq war.

Bilal Zaheer Ahmad, a 23-year-old man from Wolverhampton, was arrested a week ago by West Midlands Police.

He will appear before Westminster Magistrates Court later today. West Midlands Police were unable to explain why the case had been moved to London.

Ahmad is charged with possessing information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism. He is also charged with soliciting murder under the Offences Against the Person Act.

The allegation is that the website may have influenced Roshonara Choudry - the student convicted of attempting to murder MP Stephen Timms, the BBC reports.

We've yet to find Ahmad's alleged blog.

A quick Google does reveal the following on this Metro story on the jailing of Roshonara Choudry.

In case it gets removed, the comment reads: "I think Timms got let off lightly, in comparison to the countless civilians that have been killed as a direct result of the illegal war he voted for. Roshonara Choudry is a heroine, Free Roshonara Choudry and give her a medal for justice."

We can only hope the comment-approvers at the Metro don't face similar charges. ®
