CES 2011 At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), LG announced a range of features for its Smart TV platform, enabling more content and introducing apps to its Internet TV functionality.

At the heart of Smart TV is the Home Dashboard user interface. Deliberately fuss-free, the Home Dashboard provides an overview of available viewing with its panels of Live, Premium Content and LG apps. Along the bottom of the screen a launcher bar provides access to other functions such as web browsing.

The Home Dashboard interacts with LG’s Magic Motion Remote Control. Stripped down to just six buttons, this motion-sensing device allows the user to just point at the screen and move a cursor to navigate the options. For those keen on a Qwerty option, LG offers both iPhone and Android apps.

With viewing content from USB drives and DLNA already done and dusted, LG has added Media Link to its Smart Share functionality, which gathers metadata so that files sourced from PCs and the like will show with artwork and other information.

Even if you haven’t got an LG TV, you’re not left out of the picture, as LG’s Smart TV Upgrader will allow users with an HDMI-equipped TV to tap into these features. ®
