Playboy on iPad will be 'uncensored', says Hefner
Less need for the 'really good' articles these days?
Hugh Hefner has promised that not only is Playboy coming to the iPad, but it will be "uncensored".
Either way, punters will now be able to read the magazine in public without embarrasment - the tablet's steely, Apple logo'd back being as good a disguise as a copy of Railway World wrapped around the paper edition.
But readers will still insist they take the title for its quality journalism, of course. Ahem.
The 84-year-old Hefner regained full control of Playboy - magazine and company - on 10 January after buying back the 30 per cent of the company he didn't already own.
The company has wilted somewhat over recent years, largely as men have chosen instead to download all the cheap pr0n available on the internet. Playboy Enterprises was worth $1bn in 1999. Now it's worth around $207m.
Technology may have caused the company grief, but it's looking to technology to reverse its decline. Quite apart from ventures like the iPad app and hard drives packed with PDF back numbers, Playboy Enterprises is apparently looking to online gaming as a revenue source, promising a series of games featuring "Playboy-calibre women" to lure high-spending 18- to 35-year-olds.
Playboy on iPad will be out in March. ®
