Texter who fell in fountain threatens to sue

Overnight YouTube phenom speaks out

The woman who became an overnight YouTube sensation says she may sue the shopping mall where she was videotaped falling into a fountain while texting.

Cathy Cruz Marrero said in an article on readingeagle.com that she's “mortified” by the incident, which appears to have been captured on video by security team at the Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.

The footage from multiple camera angles was later posted on YouTube, and appears to feature members of said security team laughing and ridiculing a woman who was so caught up in her mobile device that she litterally walked into a fountain.

“My issue is I don't think security was professional because they didn't send anyone to check on me until 20 minutes later and I had already left,” Marrero told the publication. “Instead of laughing, they should have said, 'Is she OK?' and been down there right away to check on me.”

The video portrays mall employees viewing the video tape and lambasting the absent-minded texter as she stumbles into the fountain and then quickly gets out and walks away. The clip had more than 1.8 million views at time of writing.

Marrero has hired an attorney who plans to investigate what happened.

"I usually don't walk and text, but I did this day," she said. "I won't anymore." ®
