The Last Airbender up for nine Razzies

Twilight also likely to take a shoeing

The nominations for the 31st Annual Razzie Awards are now available for the viewing pleasure of the long-suffering moviegoing public, and it seems likely that The Last Airbender and Twilight Saga: Eclipse are poised to take a righteous shoeing.

The former is up for nine awards, including Worst Director, Worst Picture, Worst Remake, Worst Screenplay, Worst Screen Couple/Ensemble (the entire cast) and "a brand-new Razzie category for 2010, Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D".

The Razzie site explains: "M Night Shyamalan 're-imagined' the faux-anime TV series The Last Airbender into a jumbled, jump-cut mess of a movie that fans of the TV show hated even more than critics did (if that’s even possible!)"

Twilight Saga: Eclipse, meanwhile, also has "nine shots at taking home spray-painted gold".

Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson are both nominated for Worst Actor, with Kristen Stewart a solid bet to be crowned Worst Actress. They and their fellow Twilight thesps are in the frame for Worst Screen Ensemble, while Jackson Rathbone has the honour of being named as a possible Worst Supporting Actor for his work in both Eclipse and The Last Airbender.

Nominations for Worst Picture, Worst Director (David Slade), Worst Screenplay and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel complete the film's roster of shame.

The two celluloid masterpieces will go head-to-head with The Bounty Hunter, Sex & The City #2 and Vampires Suck for Worst Picture glory on 26 February at Hollywood's Barnsdall Gallery Theatre. ®
